Woodland Bear Baby Blanket – Crochet Pattern by Crafting Happiness

The bear is the latest design to join the 3in1 Woodland Animals Baby Blanket series.

Just like my other 3-in-1 baby blankets, the 3in1 Woodland Bear Baby Blanket acts as a toy, a blanket, and a decoration for your loved one’s room.

Unfold it and keep your child warm and snuggly while he is entertained playing with the elephant.

Once done, fold it back and it instantly transforms into a decorative item that you can rest on the armchair or the side of the cot.

Made with double knit (light worsted) yarn, this blanket is warm and soft, but light in weight, perfect for babies of all sizes and ages.

The blanket is crocheted in gender-neutral warm shades of brown and will fit any nursery.

Woodland Bear Baby Blanket – A Multipurpose Baby Blanket

The bear baby blanket is a blanket, a play mat, a toy, and a decoration for the nursery. It is the perfect baby blanket for a modern home where space is limited.

It is a blanket that keeps your child warm and snuggly.

If you travel, your baby stays warm and entertained while playing with the bear toy attached to the blanket.

At home, use this blanket as a play mat.

When not in use, fold it back and it instantly transforms into a cute bear decoration that you can rest on the cot to entertain your little one or to decorate the nursery.

Make it your own and choose any color that suits your color scheme and decor, from pinks for baby girls to blues for baby boys.

Choose natural shades of white and grey for a neutral-colored nursery or make it fun and playful with bright colors such as green, yellow, blue, or purple. Your choice!

Woodland Bear Baby Blanket – Skills & Abbreviations

Most basic stitches below have their own tutorial on my blog or YouTube channel paired with a video. If you are not sure how to crochet them, click the blue link and you will be taken to the separate instructions.

Pattern written in US terms using Craft Yarn Council abbreviations.

  • magic ring
  • ch – chain
  • yo – yarn over
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc blo – sc in the back loop only
  • dec – decrease (sc2tog)
  • inc – increase (2sc in the same stitch)
  • dc – double crochet
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc1 – first dc in the row

How to Crochet The Gingham Pattern Using The Double Crochet Stitch – Photo and Video Tutorial

Special Stitches

First Double Crochet In The Row (dc1) – sc in the first stitch, ch2.

Compared to the usual method of crocheting double crochet in the first row (ch3), this method of constructing it will eliminate the gap that usually occurs between the first two stitches.

It will also help bring the unused yarn over to the next row.

Single Crochet Back Loop Only (sc blo) – A stitch has a front and back loop that meet at one end and look like a horizontal V (looks like this >).

To single crochet in the back loop only, insert the hook in the middle of the V from the top and under the back loop (the loop that is away from you), yo and draw up a loop.

Yarn over and pull through the two loops.

Gauge

Keep the tension relaxed, if your work is too tight, the ends will curl.

Gauge is important when crocheting the gingham pattern.

Make a small swatch before starting the blanket to figure it out how many rows you need to create a square.

My gauge for this tutorial is 10 stitches and 4 rows per square.

The entire blanket has 9 squares by 11 squares.  Use one size-up hook to make the foundation chain and first row.

Using the yarn weight and hook size suggested in this pattern will create a blanket size of 100cm by 80cm (39.5in by 31.5in).

Woodland Bear Baby Blanket – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I am stuck on this pattern, can you help?

Every pattern you purchase from my shop comes with help and support. I will help you get unstuck and finish your project, so you can buy with confidence and try something new.

If you are completely new to crocheting, I recommend starting with beginner patterns and building up your confidence, pay attention to the skill level of my patterns and buy only if you are already at that level.

That doesn’t mean that you can’t contact me if there is a mistake or something unclear with this pattern, it simply means that you will need to learn the stitches, and the techniques, and learn how to read a pattern on your own.

You can contact me by messaging me on my Facebook page, Crafting Happiness, or by messaging me on Instagram.

Can I crochet this blanket using Aran yarn (worsted yarn #4)?

Yes, you can! The body parts will come out a little larger than my own, but still, in the same shape, use a smaller hook than recommended for Aran yarn to keep the size smaller. The blanket can be adjusted by simply crocheting more rounds.

Do I have to use the same yarn brand as you to get the same result?

No, you don’t. You can use any brand you like but pay attention to the yardage, different brands have different yardage. Here is a list of alternative yarns I recommend.

Can I change the size of the blanket?

Yes, you can. Each pattern can be adjusted by simply changing the number of rounds you make.

Can I sell items made with your pattern?

Yes, you can. Please check the copyright section for more details.
