Crochet Farm Goose Blanket That Folds Into a Plush Toy

Save Now, Make Later

3In1 Farm Goose Baby Blanket is my answer to everyone who kept asking me to design a bird-themed blanket. This goose crochet blanket pattern folds into a plush toy, giving you a practical blanket that also looks lovely folded up on a nursery shelf or chair.

I wanted the finished goose to have a simple look with soft curves and floppy wings. The clean white body, bright orange beak and feet, and textured feather came together exactly how I had hoped.

Project Overview

This goose blanket is not just a blanket. It is a playmat, a toy and a decoration for your room. The fluffy chenille yarn gives it a soft finish that little hands and parents will both appreciate.

How to get the pattern for the Farm Goose Blanket

The written pattern is available in my Etsy and Ravelry shops if you would like to make your own goose.

Patreon paid members also receive a 50% coupon code each month that they can use on any premium pattern, including this one.

I like how this goose looks folded up between play sessions. It feels just as much like nursery decor as it does a blanket, which makes it one of my favourite multi-functional designs.

Why I finally made the goose

I had wanted to make a bird blanket for a long time, but I kept talking myself out of it. Every time I sketched ideas, I thought it would never look balanced without four legs like my other folding animal blankets.

After hearing so many requests, I finally decided to stop overthinking it and see what would happen. Starting with a goose felt like the obvious choice because the long neck works so well once the blanket is folded.

I also wanted this version to feel extra soft, so I chose chenille yarn. If chenille is difficult to find where you live, you can substitute it with DK or even Aran yarn, although I have only tested the pattern using chenille.

More than just a blanket

A 3in1 crochet blanket gives you more than one purpose from the same project. It works as a baby blanket and play mat when opened, folds into a plush toy for play, and sits neatly on a chair or shelf when it is not being used as a decoration.

I designed these blankets with smaller homes in mind where every piece has to earn its place. Instead of putting another blanket away in a cupboard, this one becomes part of the nursery decoration.

You can also change the colours to suit any nursery. Farm colours work well, but soft creams, greys, browns, or pastel shades all give the goose a completely different look.

Why I think you’ll enjoy making this

  • The blanket has an easy rhythm once you begin, making it relaxing to work on a little at a time.
  • The head, wings, legs, and tail are made separately before assembly, so you can spread the work over several evenings.
  • The chenille yarn gives the finished goose a soft texture that feels lovely in your hands.
  • The colors are easy to customize for your own nursery style or gift.
  • When folded, the blanket becomes a goose that is both practical and decorative.

A gift that will be remembered

Handmade baby gifts always carry a little piece of the person who made them. Watching someone unwrap something you spent hours making row by row is one of the best parts of crochet.

Because this blanket has more than one purpose, it often stays in use long after the baby outgrows smaller blankets. Parents can use it during playtime, for cuddles, or simply as part of the nursery.

Who this pattern is for

  • Crocheters who already feel comfortable reading written patterns and have tried amigurumi before. The construction is straightforward, but there are several pieces to assemble.
  • Anyone looking for a memorable baby shower or first birthday gift. The finished goose stands out without needing complicated colorwork.
  • Makers who enjoy working with chenille yarn and soft textures. The repetitive blanket rows balance nicely with the smaller shaped pieces.
  • Anyone who likes practical crochet projects that can be used in more than one way around the home.

Videos that can help you along the way

I put together a playlist on my YouTube channel covering the techniques used throughout this pattern. They are there to help if you reach a part that feels unfamiliar, so you do not get stuck halfway through.

I also made a separate step-by-step tutorial for the scallop edge used on the Farm Goose blanket stitch. It is a helpful companion while working through the blanket section.

The materials I chose

I used DK weight chenille yarn with 4mm and 4.5mm hooks to give the goose a soft, plush finish. The fluffy texture helps the folded blanket look more like a cuddly toy while still keeping the blanket comfortable to use.

If you cannot buy the same yarn locally, have a look at the yarn substitutions page on my blog. I keep it updated with alternatives that work well for many of my designs.

Looking after your finished blanket

  1. Wash the blanket following the instructions on your yarn band using a gentle machine cycle.
  2. Lay the blanket flat to dry and reshape it while it is still damp, especially around the blanket section and wings.
  3. Allow it to dry completely before folding it back into the goose shape or storing it away.
