Crunch Stitch Washcloths – Free Pattern


Use this pattern for the Crunch Stitch Washcloths to learn a new stitch and create something useful for your home at the same time.

These washcloths are beginner-friendly, and you have a choice to make them either in one color or using two colors. My favorite one is the pink and blue version because you can use leftover scrap yarn from bigger projects.

The solid bumpy texture of the crunch stitch is perfect for these washcloths. They make beautiful gift sets paired with a handmade soap or body wash.

Crunch Stitch Washcloths Crochet Pattern


  • ch1 at the end of the row does not count as a stitch
  • the stitches contained within the ** are the repeat section
  • the number at the end of each row is the number of stitches you should have

Single Color Version

Starting Chain: ch28
Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hook, *sl st, hdc*, repeat until the end of the row, ch1, turn = 27
Row 2: sl st, *hdc, sl st*, repeat until the end of the row, ch1, turn = 27
Row 3: hdc, *sl st, hdc*, repeat until the end of the row, ch1, turn = 27

Repeat rows 2 & 3 until the washcloth is 17.5cm tall (in my case 29 more rows), don’t fasten off.

Single Crochet Border

Continue from the corner where you finished your last row going, down the side.

Round 1: *1sc in each sc row*, repeat until you reach the next corner, 3sc in the corner, sc in each st across the bottom of the piece until you reach the next corner, 3sc in the corner, *1sc in each sc row*, repeat until you reach the next corner, 3sc in that corner, sc in each st along the top part of the piece until you reach the corner, 3sc in that corner, sl st in the first sc you made in this round, ch1, don’t turn

Round 2: *sc in each st along the side until you reach the corner st (the 2nd sc of the 3sc you previously made in the corner), 3sc in the corner st*, repeat on each side of the piece (4 times in total), sl st in the first sc you made in this round, fasten off, weave in the ends.

Two-Color Version

Don’t break the yarn at every color change, instead, carry the yarn on the side of your work, you will be crocheting the single crochet border over it.

With color A
Starting Chain: ch28
Row 1:
hdc in 2nd ch from hook, *sl st, hdc*, repeat until the end of the row, ch1, turn = 27
Row 2:
sl st, *hdc, sl st*, repeat until the end of the row, ch1, turn = 27
Change to color B
Row 3:
hdc, *sl st, hdc*, repeat until the end of the row, ch1, turn = 27
Row 4: sl st, *hdc, sl st*, repeat until the end of the row, ch1, turn = 27

Repeat rows 3 & 4 until the washcloth is 17.5cm tall (in my case 14 more repeats, 28 more rows), don’t fasten off.
