The flower dragon crochet blanket is one of those designs I could not stop thinking about until I made it. I wanted a blanket that looked beautiful in a nursery but could also fold into a soft dragon toy when not in use.

The 3in1 Flower Dragon Blanket brings together flowers, dragons, and a practical design that works for modern families. If you love a crochet blanket that folds into a toy, this pattern gives you a blanket, a plush dragon, and nursery decor all in one project.

Project Overview

The blanket is made from flower hexagons joined together, with a dragon head, legs, tail, ears, and curved horns added to complete the design. When folded, it becomes a flower dragon plush blanket that looks beautiful on a shelf, chair, or cot.

Why I designed this flower dragon blanket

I wanted to create a dragon design that felt soft and floral instead of fierce. I loved the idea of combining blooming flowers with a friendly dragon that children would enjoy from their first years.

The flower hexagons became the starting point for the blanket. Once I placed them together, I knew they would work perfectly as dragon scales covered in blossoms. The pinks, purples, and greens gave the whole design a garden feel.

I also wanted another crochet blanket that folds into a toy because families often need items that serve more than one purpose. This design works as a blanket, a plush dragon, and a nursery decoration without taking up extra space.

Why a 3in1 animal baby blanket works so well

A 3in1 animal baby blanket gives you more than a regular blanket. It works as an animal baby blanket, a toy for playtime, and a decorative piece for the nursery. When folded, the blanket becomes a large dragon plush that children can keep close by.

This type of foldable crochet blanket is perfect for smaller homes and modern spaces where every item needs to have more than one use. Instead of storing extra toys and blankets, you have everything together in one piece.

The flower dragon colors fit many nursery styles. You can follow my pink, purple, and green version, or choose different shades to match your own room. This pattern also fits beautifully into a fantasy, dragon, woodland, or garden-themed nursery.

This flower dragon plush blanket makes a wonderful baby shower gift because it gives parents something both practical and memorable. It starts as a blanket for everyday use and folds into a beautiful dragon toy when the nursery needs tidying up.

It also makes a lovely birthday present for toddlers and young children. The combination of a dragon lap blanket and a plush companion makes it a gift that children can use and enjoy for many years.

Materials I used for this flower dragon crochet blanket

For this pattern, I used Paintbox Yarns DK with a 4mm crochet hook and a 3.5mm hook for some of the details. The sample uses green, pink, light pink, and purple yarn, along with toy stuffing, 18mm safety eyes, scissors, pins, and a tapestry needle.

If you cannot find the same yarn in your country, or already have another brand at home, check my yarn substitutions page for alternatives. I always recommend choosing a yarn with a similar weight and fibre content so your finished blanket keeps the same shape and size.

How I wash and care for my finished blankets

  1. I always recommend checking the yarn label first and following the washing instructions provided by the manufacturer. Use a gentle washing cycle with a light spin to protect the shape of your work.
  2. After washing, place the blanket on a flat surface. If the blanket has folded sections or attached pieces, reshape everything back into position while it is still damp.
  3. Leave the blanket to air dry completely while laying flat. This helps the blanket keep its shape and prevents stretching over time.
