Cobble Stitch Dishcloths – Free Pattern

Learn a new stitch and create something useful with this beginner-friendly pattern for Cobble Stitch Dishcloths.

The bumpy solid texture of the cobble stitch is perfect for dishcloths. Make them in multiple colors using leftover scrap yarn from larger projects, or use just one color to match your kitchen color palette.

They make great gift sets paired your favorite handmade soap.

Starting Chain: ch26
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in the next 24sts, ch1, turn = 25
Row 2: *sc, tr* x 12 (you will have 1st left in the row), sc, ch1, turn = 25
Row 3: sc in each 25sts, ch1, turn= 25
Row 4: sc, *sc, tr* x 11 (you will have 2sts left), sc in last 2sts, ch1, turn = 25
Row 5: sc in each 25sts, ch1, turn = 25

Repeat rows 2, 3, 4 & 5 until the dishcloth is 17.5cm tall (in my case I had 23 rows in total), your last row will be a row of sc sts, don’t fasten off.

Single Crochet Border

Turn the piece around with the bumpy texture facing you. Continue from the corner where you finished your last row.

Round 1: sc in each st along the top part of the piece until you reach the corner, 3sc in that corner, *1sc in each row going down the side*, repeat until you reach the next corner, 3sc in the corner, sc in each st across the bottom of the piece until you reach the next corner, 3sc in the corner, *1sc in each row on that side*, repeat until you reach the next corner, 3sc in that corner, sl st in the first sc you made in this round, ch1, don’t turn

Round 2: *sc in each st along the side until you reach the corner st (the 2nd sc of the 3sc you previously made in the corner), 3sc in the corner st*, repeat on each side of the piece (4 times in total), sl st in the first sc you made in this round, fasten off, weave in the ends.

Two-Color Version

I cut the yarn at every color change and weaved in the ends before crocheting the border.

With color A
Starting Chain: ch26
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in the next 24sts, ch1, turn = 25
Change to color B
Row 2: *sc, tr* x 12 (you will have 1st left in the row), sc, ch1, turn = 25
Change to color A
Row 3: sc in each 25sts, ch1, turn= 25

Repeat rows 2, 3, 4 & 5 until the dishcloth is 17.5cm tall (in my case I had 23 rows in total), fasten off, and weave in the ends.

The single crochet rows will be made in color A and the rows with the alternating treble and sc stitches will be made in color B. You will end in a row on sc stitches.
