The single crochet stitch is the most basic of the stitches and also the shortest of them all apart for the slip stitch which is mostly used as a technique.

Get Your Supplies
The abbreviation for the single crochet stitch is sc.
This abbreviation is written in US terminology using Craft Yarn Council abbreviations.
Step 1: Start with a chain.
Step 2: Insert hook in the 3rd chain from hook, yarn over and pull up a loop.
You will have two loops on your hook.
Step 3: Yarn over and pull through the two loops on hook.
Your single crochet stitch is complete.
