Summer Garden Flower Baby Blanket Free Pattern

Summer Garden Flower Baby Blanket – Free Crochet Pattern
The Summer Garden Flower Blanket is not an easy pattern, but the result is spectacular. A field of flowers in 3 different shades of pink is surrounded by a border of green leaves.
The blanket is made out of simple flower hexagons sewed together with the invisible seam technique. The blanket edging is made with the leaf stitch border.
To avoid having too many ends to weave in, crochet over the magic ring end tail. Sew the hexagons in strips then sew the strips to each other.
And just to make it easier for you, I also created a full video tutorial that guides you step by step to crochet your own version of the Summer Garden Flower Baby Blanket.
I designed the blanket using double knit (light worsted #3) yarn, and change the colors to match any theme or color palette. Scroll down for the step-by-step pattern or watch the video tutorial to see how I crocheted this blanket.

The Blanket

The blanket portion of the design is created with flower hexagons and half hexagons sewed together with the invisible seam technique.
Simple Flower Hexagon Pattern

The Summer Garden Flower Baby Blanket is made with 114 flower hexagons:
- 42 in pink
- 34 in light pink
- 38 in purple
With a 4mm crochet hook, create a magic ring.
Round 1: 12sc into the magic ring, sl st into the first sc you made in this round, pull the tail of the magic ring to close it shut = 12
Round 2: *ch3, 2dc in the next st, ch3, sl st in the following stitch* x 6 = 24
Round 3: tilt the flower towards you to expose the back, *ch3, sl st in the stitch between the petals* x 6
Round 4: *sl st in the ch3 space, ch3, 4dc in the ch3 pace, ch3, sl st in the same ch3 space* x 6 = 36
Round 5: tilt the flower towards you to expose the back again, *ch3, sl st in the same stitch between petals as you did on round 3* x 6
Round 6: sl st in the ch3 space, ch3, 3dc in the same ch3 space, ch2, *4dc in the next ch3 space, ch2* x 5, sl st in the top ch of the ch3 you made at the beginning of the round = 36
Round 7: ch3, dc in the next 3sts, (dc, ch2, dc) in the ch2 space below, *dc in the next 4sts, (dc, ch2, dc) in the ch2 space below* x 5, sl st in the top ch of the ch3 you made at the beginning, fasten off and weave in the ends.
Half Hexagon Pattern

The Summer Garden Flower Baby Blanket is made with 10 half hexagons:
- 4 in pink
- 4 in light pink
- 2 in purple
With a 4mm crochet hook, create a magic ring.
Round 1: ch3, 6dc into the magic ring, pull the tail of the magic ring to close it shut, turn = 7
Round 2: ch3, dc in first sts, 2dc in next 6 stitches = 14
Round 3: ch3, dc in first st, dc in next 4sts, (dc, ch2, 2dc) in next st, dc in next 2sts, (2dc, ch2, dc) in next st, dc in next 4sts, 2dc in next st, fasten off and leave a long tail = 20
Joining The Hexagons and Half Hexagons

Place all the hexagons on a flat surface such as the floor or a table. Use the picture of the full blanket above to place each hexagon.
Once happy with the location of the hexagon, use the seamless join technique to sew the hexagons in long strips. Then sew the strips to each other.
Once all the hexagons are connected, place the half hexagons on the edges according to the same picture, and sew them using the same technique.
Use any color yarn you like, the stitches would be invisible. Choose a color similar to the last hexagon so you can weave in the ends and not have them shown through.
The Base Border

With green yarn and a 4 mm crochet hook, join in any of the corners.
Crochet a round of single crochet stitches all around the blanket. Make 3sc in each corner, sc in each stitch on the edges of the hexagons, and 2sc in each ch2 space of the hexagons’ corner.
On the narrow edges where the half hexagons are connected, sc in each stitch and make 2sc around each dc post of the half hexagons.
You will have straight edges on the narrow sides of the blanket and jagged edges on the long sides.
The Border

TIP: make sure you have uneven numbers of V stitches on each side of the blanket (corners not included).
With green yarn and a 4mm crochet hook, join in any corner of the blanket (the middle of the 3sc you have made in the base border).
Round 1:
Step 1: Join in any corner of the blanket with a slip knot, (ch3, dc, ch2, V st) in the corner stitch.
Step 2: sk2, *V st, sk2*, repeat from * until you reach the next corner stitch.
Step 3: ** (V st, ch2, V st) in the corner st, sk2, *V st, sk2*, repeat from * until you reach the next corner stitch **, repeat the entire section from ** on each side of the blanket.
Close the round with a sl st in the top chain of ch3 you made at the beginning of the round.
Round 2: Only work in the ch1 space of the V stitches with the exception of the corners where you also work in the ch2 space between the V stitches made in those corners.
Step 1: sl st in the V st, ch3, 5dc, (4dc, p st, 4dc) in the ch2 space between the V sts, 6dc in the next V st , sc in next V st.
Step 2: *(4dc, p st, 4dc) in next V st, sc in next V st*, repeat from *, repeat until you have crocheted in the last V st on the blanket side.
Step 3: ** 6dc in the first Vst of the corner, (4dc, p st, 4dc) in the ch2 space between the corner V sts, 6dc in the second Vst of the corner, *(4dc, p st, 4dc) in next V st, sc in next V st*, repeat from *, repeat until you have crocheted in the last V st on the blanket side **, repeat from ** on each side of the blanket.
Close the round with a sl st in the top chain of ch3 you made at the beginning of the round. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
