Stars & Pom Poms Baby Blanket Free Pattern
Stars & Pom Poms Baby Blanket – Free Crochet Pattern
The Stars & Pom Poms Baby Blanket has a modern, elegant design with a lattice pom pom border on top and bottom of the blanket and a beautifully textured blanket made with the star stitch pattern.
And, can I just say, this will make a gorgeous and stylish adult-size afghan. The pattern is easy to adjust and you can make it as big or small as you want it to be.
To make it easier for you, I created a full video tutorial that guides you step by step on how to crochet your own version of Stars & Pom Pom Baby Blanket.

How To Crochet The SC5TOG
Insert hook in the star eye(the ch1 you made), yo, and pull up a loop (2 loops on the hook).
Insert hook in the space between the last 2 star spikes from the previous star you made, yo and pull up a loop(3 loops on the hook).
Insert hook in the same chain you made the last stitch of the previous star, yo, and pull up a loop (4 loops on the hook).
Insert hook into the next chain, yo, and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook).
Repeat in the next chain and pull up a final loop (6 loops on your hook).
Yo and pull through all 6 loops on your hook to complete the sc5tog.
The Blanket
Using a 6mm crochet hook, ch113
Row 1: sc5tog from 2nd chain, ch1, *sc5tog from ch1, ch1*, repeat from * until you have 1ch left, 1hdc in that last ch, turn
Row 2: ch2 (counts as a hdc), *2hdc in each ch1 from the previous row*, repeat from * until you crocheted in each ch1 from the previous row, 1hdc in the last stitch, turn
Row 3: ch3 (does not count as a stitch), sc5tog from 2nd chain, ch1, *sc5tog from ch1, ch1*, repeat from * until you have 1st left, 1hdc in that last ch, turn
Row 4: ch2 (counts as a hdc), *2hdc in each ch1 from the previous row*, repeat from * until you crocheted in each ch1 from the previous row, 1hdc in the last stitch, turn
Repeat Rows 3 & 4 until the blanket measures 100cm long, in my case, 82 rows (or 41-star rows).
Don’t fasten off, continue from the corner you have finished and make the single crochet border.
The Base Border
Change hooks to a 5mm one and continue from the corner where you finished your last row.
Make sure you are turning your work around and that you are crocheting the border with the right side facing you.
Round 1: ch1 (does not count as a stitch), 3sc in the first st to form the corner, sc in each st along the top of the blanket until you have 1 st left, 3sc in that last stitch to create the corner, (now we are crocheting along the side of the blanket), make 3sc for every 2 rows going down until you reach the end, (now you are crocheting along the bottom of the blanket), 3sc in the first stitch to create the corner, sc in each stitch along the bottom of the blanket until you have 1 st left, 3sc in that last stitch to form the corner, (you are now crocheting along the other side of the blanket), make 3sc for every 2 rows going down until you reach the end, sl st in the first sc you made in this row to close the round.
Round 2: ch1 (doesn’t count as a stitch), sc in the same st you have sl st in the previous round, *3sc in next to form the corner, sc in each st along the side until you reach the corner st (the 2nd sc of the 3sc you previously made in the corner)*, repeat from * on each side of the blanket, sl st in the first sc you made in this round.
Don’t fasten off, continue from the corner you have finished and make the lattice and pom pom border.
The Lattice & Pom Pom Border
The border is crocheted only at the top and bottom of the blanket using the same 5mm crochet hook. Repeat the pattern below for each of the 2 sides.
Row 1: from where you finished row 2 of the base border, sl st in next 2sts to reach the top of the blanket, ch1 (doesn’t count as a st), hdc in the same stitch you have sl st last, *ch2, sk2, hdc*, repeat from * until you hdc in the last st in the row, ch1, turn.
NOTE: If at the end, you don’t have exactly 2sts to skip before you hdc in the last st, it is ok to sk1 or sk3. Watch the video tutorial for more details.
Row 2: hdc in the first stitch (which is the hdc below), ch1, hdc in the ch2 space below, *ch2, hdc in next ch2 space*, repeat from * until you hdc in the last ch2 space, ch1, hdc in the last st (the hdc below), ch1, turn.
Row 3: hdc in the first st (which is the hdc below), ch2, hdc in the next ch2 space (not the ch1 space, skip that one), *ch2, hdc in the ch2 space below*, repeat from * until you have crocheted in the last ch2 space available, ch2, hdc in the last st (the last hdc below), turn.
Row 4: *ch6, bo in 3rd st from the hook, ch3, bo in 3rd st from the hook, sl st in 3rd ch from the blanket base (right under the 1st bobble you made), ch3, sl st in the ch2 space below*, repeat from * until you have sl st in the last ch2 space in the row, ch6, bo in 3rd st from the hook, ch3, bo in 3rd st from the hook, sl st in 3rd ch from the blanket base (right under the 1st bobble you made), ch3, sl st in the last stitch in the row (the hdc below).
