Crochet Front Side Loop Stitch For Amigurumi Toys
The Front Side Loop Stitch – Pattern Description
The Front Side Loop Stitch is similar to the loop stitch except it is made on the right side of your work using your thumb to create the loops.
This is particularly helpful when you are crocheting amigurumi pieces and you need a bit of texture such as hair, fur, or doll’s clothing.
In this tutorial, I will show you how to crochet the front side loop stitch and also how to increase and decrease when working with this stitch.

The Front Side Loop Stitch In The Round
The Front Side Loop Stitch (flp st) is designed to be worked on the right side of your work and that’s why is most commonly used in amigurumi toys.
If you use the regular loop stitch on your amigurumi project, the loops will come out on the wrong side which is the inside of your project. And that’s why we are using the front side loop stitch.
Step 1: Hold your work as usual, and with your thumb, go behind the yarn and pull a loop at the front of your work.
Step 2: Insert the hook into the stitch making sure the loop on your thumb is trapped between the tip of your hook and the loop on your hook (when you insert the hook in the stitch, push the loop you have pulled with your thumb to the right).
Step 3: Yo and pull through a loop (2 loops on the hook), yo and pull through the two loops on the hook.
Now you can release the newly made front side loop off your thumb.
The Front Side Loop Stitch Decrease
When working in the round on your amigurumi project, you will need to decrease so you can crochet different shapes or close your project. Here is how to decrease when using the front side loop stitch.
Step 1: Hold your work as usual, and with your thumb, go behind the yarn and pull a loop at the front of your work.
Step 2: Push the loop to the right side and insert your hook into the stitch, yo and pull up a loop (you will have 2 loops on your hook).
Step 3: Release the loop off your thumb and hold it with the other thumb.
With your thumb, go behind the yarn again and pull a second loop at the front of your work.
Step 4: Push the loop to the right side and insert your hook into the following stitch, yo and pull up a loop (you will have 3 loops on your hook).
Step 5: Yo and pull up through all 3 loops on the hook. You have now turned 2 stitches into one while making 2 front-side loops.
The Front Side Loop Stitch Increase
When working in the round on your amigurumi project, you will need to increase so you can crochet different shapes. Here is how to increase when using the front side loop stitch.
Step 1: make a front side loop stitch by pulling forward a loop with your thumb, inserting your hook inside the stitch, yo, and pulling a loop, then yo and pull through the 2 loops on your hook.
Step 2: In the same stitch, make another front side loop stitch. Now you have increased the number of stitches in your round by 1.
