Ella The Elephant Lovey pattern comes in two versions:
- a waffle stitch pentagon lovey for intermediate crocheters
- a granny stitch pentagon lovey for intermediate beginners
If you are not familiar with the waffle stitch, check out the illustrated tutorial and video HERE.
You also have the option to have her trunk positioned up or curved down.
I used a pink and gray color combination for this lovey because it was made for a little girl, but you can change the color scheme to suit a boy or make it gender neutral or simply to match the colors in your nursery.
Made with double knit (light worsted) yarn, this blanket is warm and soft, but light in weight, perfect for babies of all sizes and ages.
Both blanket patterns are adjustable and so, you can make them as big or small as you like, simply add as many rows as you like until the blanket reaches the size you want.

Supplies Used
Both options use relatively the same quantity of yarn. Below is the amount of yarn you will need for one blanket.
- 2 x 100g balls of Marriner Yarns double knit (light worsted) yarn in grey (silver)
- 1 x 100g ball of Marriner Yarns double knit (light worsted) yarn in pink (pink)
Unfortunately Marriner Yarns is only found in the UK, so for my international customers, I can recommend a similar yarn, Red Heart Yarn , which comes is a multitude of colors and weights, just as affordable and easy to work with as Marriner Yarns.
- polyfill stuffing
- crochet hook size 4mm
- blunt sewing needle to fit the yarn used to stitch the parts together
- 20mm black doll safety eyes
- scissors and stitch markers (optional)
I get most of my crochet supplies from Amazon, it’s fast and easy and everything is in one place.

Gauge
Keep the tension relaxed, if your work is too tight, the ends will curl.
The gauge is not important but I will list the measurements below for your reference. Keep the tension relaxed, if your work is too tight, the ends will curl.
Using the yarn weight and hook size suggested in this pattern will create a
lovey approximately 48cm (19in) in diameter.
I hope you enjoyed my latest creation and found the pattern easy to follow. Don’t forget to tag me with your finished projects, I would love to see how yours turned out.
