What is the basketweave stitch? The basketweave stitch is a crochet pattern constructed with front and back post double crochet stitches (fpdc and bpdc for short) and simple repeat rows that create a woven looking pattern similar to a basket.

It’s just amazing what you can create with back and front post stitches. The textures and patterns you can do with these two simple stitches is unlimited, from the waffle stitch to the alpine stitch and everything in between.

Basketweave Stitch Pattern Instructions

To begin, chain 41 or any multiples of 8 chains + 1 chains.

Row 1: dc in 5th stitch from hook, dc in each of the remaining chains, turn.

Basketweave Stitch - Row 1 (blue)

Row 2: ch3 (counts as a dc), fpdc around the next 4 sts, *bpdc around next 4 sts, fpdc around next 4sts*, repeat from * until you have 1 st remaining, dc, turn

Basketweave Stitch - Row 2

Row 3: ch3 (counts as a dc), bpdc around the next 4 sts, *fpdc around next 4 sts, bpdc around next 4sts*, repeat from * until you have 1 st remaining, dc, turn.

Basketweave Stitch - Row 3

Row 4: ch3 (counts as a dc), bpdc around the next 4 sts, *fpdc around next 4 sts, bpdc around next 4sts*, repeat from * until you have 1 st remaining, dc, turn.

Basketweave Stitch - Row 4

Row 5: ch3 (counts as a dc), fpdc around the next 4 sts, *bpdc around next 4 sts, fpdc around next 4sts*, repeat from * until you have 1 st remaining, dc, turn.

Basketweave Stitch - Row 5

Row 6: ch3 (counts as a dc), fpdc around the next 4 sts, *bpdc around next 4 sts, fpdc around next 4sts*, repeat from * until you have 1 st remaining, dc, turn.

Basketweave Stitch - Row 6

Repeat rows 3 – 6 until you have the required length.
