Basketweave Stitch – Easy Step By Step Photo & Video Tutorial
What is the basketweave stitch? The basketweave stitch is a crochet pattern constructed with front and back post double crochet stitches (fpdc and bpdc for short) and simple repeat rows that create a woven looking pattern similar to a basket.
It’s just amazing what you can create with back and front post stitches. The textures and patterns you can do with these two simple stitches is unlimited, from the waffle stitch to the alpine stitch and everything in between.
Today I will show you how to crochet the basket weave pattern with step by step photos and explanations and a video for those of you who find it easier to learn by watching how is it done.

Basketweave Stitch Pattern
To begin, chain 41 or any multiples of 8 chains + 1 chains.
Row 1: dc in 5th stitch from hook, dc in each of the remaining chains, turn.

Row 2: ch3 (counts as a dc), fpdc around the next 4 sts, *bpdc around next 4 sts, fpdc around next 4sts*, repeat from * until you have 1 st remaining, dc, turn.

Row 3: ch3 (counts as a dc), bpdc around the next 4 sts, *fpdc around next 4 sts, bpdc around next 4sts*, repeat from * until you have 1 st remaining, dc, turn.

Row 4: ch3 (counts as a dc), bpdc around the next 4 sts, *fpdc around next 4 sts, bpdc around next 4sts*, repeat from * until you have 1 st remaining, dc, turn.

Row 5: ch3 (counts as a dc), fpdc around the next 4 sts, *bpdc around next 4 sts, fpdc around next 4sts*, repeat from * until you have 1 st remaining, dc, turn.

Row 6: ch3 (counts as a dc), fpdc around the next 4 sts, *bpdc around next 4 sts, fpdc around next 4sts*, repeat from * until you have 1 st remaining, dc, turn.

Repeat rows 3 – 6 until you have the required length.

And this is how you crochet the classic basketweave stitch.
